Susanne Saville enjoys caffeine - especially in coffee and tea, traveling, horseback riding, reading, and John Barrowman. Not necessarily in that order. She has a Master's Degree in History and a second Master's Degree in Library Science. The casual observer might suppose that this primarily qualifies her to dispense fries at fast-food restaurants. (Just kidding.)

Ms. Saville has worked as a Reference Librarian in California and as a History Instructor at Georgia Military College. She has also been interviewed by Dog Fancy as an expert on the pug dog's place in history. She currently resides in New England and, along with writing, delights in researching, spending quality time with her cats, and eating fries at fast-food restaurants.

Claire Fullerton's Debut Novel Explores The Possibilities of Past Lives And Loves

A PORTAL IN TIME by Claire Fullerton

When we are inexplicably drawn to love and a particular place, is it coincidence, or have we loved before? ...

Enigmatic and spirited Anna Lucera is gifted with an uncanny sixth-sense and is intrigued by all things mystical. When her green, cat-eyes and long, black hair capture the attention of a young lawyer named Kevin Townsend, a romance ensues which leads them to the hauntingly beautiful region of California's Carmel-By-The-Sea where Anna is intuitively drawn to the Madiera Hotel.

Everything about the hotel and Carmel-By-The-Sea heightens her senses and speaks to Anna as if she had been there before. As Anna's memory unravels the puzzle, she is drawn into a past that's eerily familiar and a life she just may have lived before.

“A Portal in Time” is a 50,000 word Paranormal/Romance novel about a woman who realizes that she has lived before. Employing oscillating chapters that develop the lives and romances of two women in different time periods, the story begins in the years 2000 and 1901 respectively, in the hauntingly beautiful region on the Monterey Peninsula called Carmel, California.

Rich in mystique, foreshadow and character development, “A Portal in Time” introduces the reader to Anna Townsend and her husband, Bill, who check into The Madeira Hotel in Carmel, California in the year 2000 to celebrate their one year anniversary. Not only is Anna lovely, spirited and artistic, she is also conveniently graced with the asset of dependable intuition, which is revealed to the reader as the story of her meeting and eventual marriage to Bill Townsend is told in flashback in order to bring her through The Madeira hotel’s front door.

Subsequently, and beginning in the year 1901, the reader meets Valeria Sienna, who is the eighteen year old daughter of an affluent, Italian immigrant and his genteel wife who enjoy immense prosperity and popularity in turn of the century San Francisco. Valeria possesses an energetic enthusiasm for life that captivates the reader when she begins her courtship with a Norwegian artist named Anders Kristiansen who, much to the chagrin of Valeria’s father, is suitable on every level though he is neither an American nor an Italian.

“A Portal in Time” is an oscillating, liner growth story steeped in the language and social mores of two different eras with characters both central and supporting whose words and actions fit seamlessly together and bridge the time frames like pieces of a puzzle. What drives the story is the climax of a profound, life altering tragedy which Valeria Sienna lives through after her marriage to Anders Kristiansen and Anna Townsend recalls through past life memory on one particular night while staying at the Madeira Hotel. Coincidence, similarities, foreshadow and intrigue ultimately reveal that the site of The Madeira Hotel is the actual house that Anders Kristiansen built for his young bride and it is this fact that triggers the soul memory of Anna Townsend.

Claire Fullerton wrote her own weekly column for The Malibu Surfside News from 2009-2010. She has been published in numerous magazines, and repeatedly in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series. Claire is the 2013 first runner up of The San Francisco Writer’s Conference Contest for her narrative non-fiction essay, “Mastering Ambiguity,” which she is currently turning into a novel.

“A Portal in Time” is her first novel, and the manuscript for her second novel is under review.

HEROIC MEASURES by Jo-Ann Power

Heroic Measures Trilogy Book One

Honoring those who have served their country in war, most focus on those who have fought on the battlefields. But one group's heroics under fire have slipped through the pages of history, a group whose blood and sweat were left in operating rooms and hospital tents, a group whose heroism has seldom been measured.

For nurse Gwen Spencer, fighting battles is nothing new. An orphan sent to live with a vengeful aunt, Gwen picked coal and scrubbed floors to earn a living. But when she decides to become a nurse, she steps outside the boundaries of her aunt's demands…and into a world of her own making.

Leaving her hometown for France, she helps doctors mend thousands of brutally injured Doughboys under primitive conditions. Amid the chaos, she volunteers to go ever forward to the front lines. Braving bombings and the madness of men crazed by the hell of war, she is stunned to discover one man she can love. A man she can share her life with.

But in the insanity and bloodshed she learns the measures of her own desires. Dare she attempt to become a woman of accomplishment? Or has looking into the face of war and death given her the courage to live her life to the fullest?

Whether the story calls for immersion in history, the always-volatile corporate world or the demanding environment of journalism, Jo-Ann Power brings her expert writing talent to draw readers into exciting, realistic worlds.

Her versatility with genres has brought her success as well as thousands of readers in genres such as mainstream, mystery and romance, and drawn praise from multiple reviewers and readers.

Romantic Times said of her work, "She draws readers into a carefully constructed novel that is brimming with…passion, brilliant colors and fascinating history..." Others compare her "power-ful" style to that of Daphne DuMaurier and Phyllis Whitney. Publishers Weekly said, "Her ability to "cleverly weave politics, murder and romance, creating intense, breath-catching suspense" is a hallmark of her works. Her mysteries have been Featured Alternates of The Mystery Guild, and her historical romances were selections of both Rhapsody Book Club and Doubleday Book Club.

In her latest historical novel, HEROIC MEASURES, Jo-Ann takes us from the coal mines of Pennsylvania to the battlefields of France in World War One. Recreating the decision of one young nurse to join the Army Nurse Corps, sail to France and serve on the American front lines, the novel follows her courageous journey under brutal conditions. The story of the hardships and triumphs of these women has been woefully neglected. Fascinated by the valor of these nurses and their grace under pressure, Jo-Ann researched the topic for decades, including trips to the actual battlefields where much of the book takes place. Now, as we approach the Centennial of the outbreak of World War One, she brings the bravery of these women to life in the person of Gwen Spencer, a young girl from Peckville, Pennsylvania whose heart led her to serve others in their time of need.

Racism, politics and a matchmaking stepmother test Maggie’s resourcefulness as she fights for Bellevue, a wounded Confederate officer and the affections of the Union commander.

In the north, Matty discovers an incriminating letter in General Worthington’s office, and soon she is on the run. With no one to turn to for help, she drugs the wealthy Colonel Cole Black and marries him, in hopes of getting the letter to his father, the governor of Michigan. A New Historical Romance From Jean Hart Stewart

Today we're celebrating the release of Jean Hart Stewart's new historical romance, FOR LOVE IS NEW

Jean feels she’s very much a Californian although she was born in Ohio. California has been home for a good many years. Life changed drastically for her when she was six and her father died incredibly from an errant golf ball. A dishonest insurance agent forced her sheltered mother to seek work, and she became a teacher. Her hours required Jean to be alone in the house in the afternoon, and since she was forbidden to leave till her mother got home, she became an avid reader. The local library supplied most of the books and she developed early her two of main interests, Jane Austen and King Arthur.

Reading is still one of her favorite activities, although she sometimes has to push it aside to make room for her enduring love of writing. Her journalism degree was used infrequently until recently. Marriage and raising two children pleasantly got in the way. After twenty years of being a real estate broker and with the kids raised she finally could devote her time to writing, her first love.

Jean's enchantment with the lore and legends of Druids and, therefore, delving into their history led to fascinating research that inspired her popular
Garland of Druids Series for Cerridwen Press. She's now enjoying writing stories filled with magic and romance for her Songs of the Mages Series, also for Cerridwen Press.

Few things in her life have been so satisfying, especially when all her books have a happy ending. Wonderful to make happen. It only gets more interesting when a secondary character demands his very own book. Who would want to deny him? Not Jean!

Celebrating the Release of Jennifer Linforth's ABENDLIED

Today we are celebrating the release of ABENDLIED, the second book in Jennifer Linforth's Madrigals Series that expand's Leroux's beloved story of The Phantom of the Opera.

If one is going to query a publisher, Jennifer Linforth suggests not doing so in pink ink. Her first, written when she was twelve, was nothing if not colorful. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society and the Romance Writers of America in addition to being a writing mentor. Writing historical fiction and historical romance with unusual themes and locations, such as autism and the social mores of the mentally ill in the 19th century, she has a passion for Austrian culture and is often found searching for stories in long forgotten histories.

It was her love of research and classic literature that brought her to expanding Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera.

Writing from a tiny loft office, Jennifer admits to being country mouse with city mouse tastes and is constantly fighting to keep the little critters in line. She can't pronounce pistachio, hates lollipops with gooey centers, and dearly loves to laugh. If asked for her motto in life, she points to the following poem upon her office wall:

Come to the edge. We might fall. Come to the edge. It's too high! COME TO THE EDGE! And they came, and he pushed, and they flew. ~ Christopher Logue Croyez.
